This must have been a game full of suprises. Liverpool suffered in the presence of their fans by losing 0 -2 to West Brom. This means that their hopes to feature in the next season’s championship league were diminished by the late goals. Conceding two goals from West Brom side at Anfield is a big blow to their efforts of fighting for the top four in the English premier league to stand a chance in next season’s champion’s league. This proved to be a total nightmare to the Reds.
It is unfortunate that after they dominated much of the game by creating great chances to score, they wasted them. This was particularly evident when in Gerard’s penalty was saved by the West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster. Later on, the Baggies utilized their opportunity as Romelu Lukaku and Gareth McAuley scored a goal each. However, in the first minutes of the match, Liverpool players caused the adrenaline of their opponents to rise by firing more shots thought most of them were off target. This means that the hosts were really in control of the game especially when Daniel Agger’s free header tipped over the bar post. Steward downing showed an impressive performance throughout the match with great effort to sting Foster’s hands.
In the overall, the chances for West Brom side were rare and they generally looked to be out-of-form to make a break through against their opponent’s defense. The first half ended fruitless for both teams despite the effort from Downing and Gerrard to make a deadlock. These efforts were denied by the West Brom goalkeeper. The second half started with the same energy as in the first half for both teams. However, after a while in the second half play, an excellent reaction was brought by the improvised back-flick of Jordan Henderson, which came from England’s former goalkeeper. The misery of Liverpool was brought by the substitute Lukaku at the stoppage time.
